EAT2GIVE: Supporting Local Charities with a CheckD Data Wallet Campaign

Dataswyft is proud to support a new project in Malaysia on the CheckD Data Wallet.

The “EAT2GIVE” project brings together food enthusiasts (”foodies”) in Malaysia to support local charities while uniting residents and food businesses. The goal is to foster a culture of doing good through foodie commerce.

The campaign aims to use the CheckD Data Wallet – a sophisticated digital tool designed for privately and securely managing and sharing information in an easy and seamless way.

After getting a CheckD Data Wallet (currently a web app on CheckD.io/app), foodies would claim the campaign support badge – named “EAT2GIVE” – on their mobile devices and be directed to partner food merchants in the Malaysian city of Subang Jaya. When foodies purchase an EAT2GIVE menu item at a partner food merchant, they show their EAT2GIVE badge for validation. For each validation (which is a scan of the badge QR code), the partner food merchant promises to donate RM3 to the campaign organizer, contributing directly to local causes. CheckD Data Wallet maintains privacy and security for all foodies, while providing the campaign organizer with a full count of merchant validations.

For merchants, EAT2GIVE offers a cost-effective marketing solution that can bring foot traffic to their businesses.

For foodies, EAT2GIVE is an opportunity to support local charities by sharing their data about what they love the most – a verified activity of enjoying delicious and unique foods – without having to reveal their identities.

Matt Chung, a community partner of the campaign, states: “The CheckD Data Wallet allows us to quickly plan and execute fundraising campaigns, not only ensuring that we’re doing our part to allow our community to further contribute and elevate the city of Subang Jaya itself, but by contributing in a way where the food and beverage (F&B) merchants, community members, the community ecosystem, and community charities all succeed together. ”

This incentive alignment of individuals, merchants, and campaign organizer, was expertly crafted by the BFG (Business for Good) team, a local partner of Dataswyft, ensuring a collaborative approach that benefits the entire community.

Jason Shong from BFG states: “Many community groups are eager to make a difference but struggle to make it convenient for donors and also generate revenue to cover coordination and administrative costs. The CheckD Data Wallet helps us rewire the way we deliver while giving us a new way to generate revenue for community initiatives.“

Dataswyft Group CEO Professor Irene Ng says: “Dataswyft’s mission is to empower individuals to take ownership of their data and enable them to leverage it for personal benefit. We are proud and honored that our technology, in partnership with the BFG team, can help the Subang community achieve impactful purpose.”

The combined efforts of TheBFG.team and SubangFood would contribute to the vitality of the Subang community. SubangFood’s mission is to “connect people through food" while TheBFG.team focuses on "building culture through commerce". Together, they aim to foster a stronger, more engaged community of residents and local businesses while supporting local charities.

The month-long fundraising initiative will start on the 15th of October 2024.

About the Parties

SubangFood.com (Subang Food), founded in late 2023, aims to connect people through food. With a fast-growing community of over 50,000 members, it has successfully organized various activities connecting food and beverage outlets with the community.

TheBFG.team (The Business For Good Team) was launched in 2024 with the mission of fostering an equitable culture through commerce, for a new way of doing business that maximises value creation for the customers, employees, shareholders, society, and the environment.

The CheckD Data Wallet is a sophisticated digital tool designed for managing and sharing information. Wallet users fully own of their data and use them by applying their data onto customizable “badges”. Badges enable users to use their data to fill forms, register attendance, or verify their identity (eg memberships), information (eg. prescription), or activities (eg shopping or dining behavior) seamlessly. Due to the individual being the data owner, controller, and processor of their data in their data wallet account, CheckD enables on-demand, cross-border sharing of PII (personal identifiable information), and is fully compliant with global data regulations. The technology was built by Dataswyft Group, a global technology company supported by over USD$50 million in research grants and collaboration with 10 UK universities.
